Silenor
What is Silenor?
Silenor is manufactured by Somax and it is there only product on the market. Silenor is the first and only non-controlled prescription sleep medication for the people struggling to stay asleep through the night that is not associated with a risk of abuse or physical evidence. Silenor is specifically indicated for patients diagnosed with sleep maintenance insomnia. Sleep maintenance insomnia is a type of insomnia characterized by difficulty staying asleep and/or early-morning awakenings without being able to return to sleep. It can also treat transient insomnia which is insomnia that only lasts a few days. Silenor is not approved to treat any other conditions.
How Does Silenor Work?
What is interesting is that this company states it does not know exactly how this product works. It is believed that Silenor helps you stay asleep by blocking histamine, an important chemical messenger in the brain. The ingredient in this product is called doxepin which is in a group called tricycle antidepressants. A tricycle antidepressant is also used as a hypnotic to intiate and maintain sleep. At higher doses it is used to treat anxiety and depression. It apparently is a recycled drug because it was used to deal with depression years ago and now they market it as an insomnia drug.
Is Silenor Safe?
The list of side effects are endless. Sleepiness, dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, blurred vision, heart palpitations, rapid heart rate, incontinence, increased appetite, nausea or vomiting, sweating, weakness, confusion, restlessness, and on and on and on!!! Why would you want to take something that has that many side effects?
How Much is Silenor?
That is a good question! It must be rather expensive because it is not found on the internet.
Silenor Conclusion
Silenor may be the first and only non-controlled prescription sleep medication but it is still alarming what it entails. Most people are worried about a sleep medication that is habit forming and do not want to become dependent on a drug. However, there are so many warnings out there if you decide to take this medication. It is not recommended for young people under 25 years old who are suffering from major depression because of their risk of suicide. If you have glaucoma, or difficulties with urinary retention they say do not use this product. They said you should use caution if you have cardiovascular disease, seizures, thyroid problems, diabetes, asthma, Parkinson’s disease, liver problems, or are elderly. It even said it may not be appropriate for those who have bipolar disease or schizophrenia or if at risk for suicide. That sure eliminates a lot of people. Can a drug be that amazing if you have so many warnings? I think I would look further for a more natural herbal supplement that has little if any side effects and can treat a variety of sleep disorders and insomnia. You are looking for a cure for insomnia not depression. It seems like it would be well worth your while to keep looking for an insomnia supplement that has fewer side effects and less pricey and better for you.
